Georgia is a country in the Caucasus region on the crossroad of Europe and Asia. Situated at the Eastern edge of Europe, it is bounded to the west by the Black Sea, to the north by the Great Caucasus mountain range, to the south by Turkey and Armenia, and to the east by Azerbaijan. Georgia covers an area of 69,700 sq. km. The population of the country is around 4 million.
Ancient history, unique culture, and as yet little known for the world country – this is how we can characterize Georgia. The myth of the Argonauts, King Farsman’s fabulous world, wedged in the passage of the Caucasus by Alexander the Great,Prometheus (Amirani – Georgian version if Prometheus) chained high on the rocks of mount Kazbegi in Caucasus, these are the main point of attraction for the visitors of Georgia.
In spite of the small area, Georgia is one of the top countries with the diversity of nature and number of microclimatic zones from subtropical at the Black Sea coast to dry continental climate on the southeast part of the country. Due to the mild climate and wide range of climate zones, the harvest time is long-lasting in the country.
Due to the recent condition, Georgia’s agricultural environment is characterized as rich with nutrients and mainly free of pesticides and due to these facts, the agriculture of Georgia is considered a good condition for bio- and mostly organic farming countries.
While Georgia laid on the high importance trade road connecting Europe with Asia, attention to Georgia since regaining independence from the Soviet empire (1990) is rising every year. In 2014 Georgia signed the association agreement with the European Union and in 2017 the country was granted a visa-free regime with the EU. In 2015 Georgia signed the Deep and Comprehensive of Free Trade Agreement (DCFTA) with the European Union. In the same time, Georgia signed the Free Trade Agreements (FTA) with EFTA Countries (Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein), Ukraine, and Turkey, GSP agreement with the USA, Canada, and Japan. FTA with the People’s Republic of China (Including Hong Kong). Member of WTO since 2000.
Georgia is a country with an ancient, rich, and unique culture that dates back for millennia. The Georgian polyphonic music and the Georgian alphabet are recognized by UNESCO as “a masterpiece of the world’s cultural heritage”. In 1977 the golden recording on board of the U.S. spacecraft Voyager carried the traditional Georgian song “Chakrulo” to the far reaches of our solar system, as a part of the world’s cultural heritage. Georgian dance, similar to polyphonic songs remains a major cultural attraction.
And last but not least information for the people to do business in Georgia or with Georgian business people: the level of crime in Georgia is one of the lowest in Europe and all around the Globe. Safety in the country makes it even easier to do business with Georgian companies.
